You need a criminal attorney or you need someone to help you with a civil matter, which is anything that is not criminal.

Ask a lawyer! Asking for legal advice is quite similar to medical advice. Like doctors, nearly every lawyer will be able to and happy to recommend a relevant specialist, if the issue isn't one they can help you with. Regardless of your particular legal situation, a lawyer will be able to direct you to a peer who can help you.

It depends upon what type of legal services one needs. If one is buying property, one should hire a real estate lawyer. If one has broken a law, then one should hire a criminal lawyer. Research online or look through the yellow pages for the lawyer that fits your needs.

You can look in the yellow pages to see what certain lawyers practice. Another way you might be able to get in contact with the right lawyer is to call and ask if they cover it, if they say no they will probably refer you to someone.

Most lawyers specialize in certain areas of law, such as family law, immigration law, tax law, personal injuries etc. So, the type of lawyer you need depends on what kind of issue you are dealing with. For example, if you owe money to the IRS you will need a tax lawyer.

Lawyers can be separated into two general types of practice: criminal and civil. If you contact an attorney and she/he does not feel that she/he can handle the matter, you will be referred to someone who can.

To find a good lawyer, you first should look up lawyers with expertise or experince with the crime you are accused of. Most lawyers have more cases concerning a certain crime, and thus they are more likely to be better choices.

You can figure out what type of lawyer you need by determining what kind of offense was committed (example: traffic tickets; dui; misdeminor; or felony; or even child support and divorce) and then you can look in the phone book under attornys and find one that best suites your needs.
