How can I care for a dog with a broken tail?

My dog got in a fight with another dog, in the end he had a broken tail.

Unless your dog's tail is dislocated, it should heal on its own. As long as the break isn't at the base, splinting the tail with a chopstick and wrapping with gauze should immobilize for healing. However, if dog exhibits any pain or hind end swelling, you should immediately visit your vet.

You can take him to the vet to see what they can do. Though since dogs usually wag their tail or move it too much, there would be no point in trying to get it back into its original condition looks wise. Your dog will heal with time, though I do suggest taking it to a vet.

Yes. A dog's tail contains cartilege and may be splinted and bandaged at the break. First clean the broken skin with antiseptic and make sure the bleeding has stopped. Then bandage up the break area with a splint. It will heal in about three to four weeks.
