Being an effective defensive end requires strength, speed, and agility. To achieve this, one should focus on weight-training and on drills that improve pass-rush/run-stopping skills, mobility and agility.

Practise both your upper and lower body strength, and your overall speed in general (especially the 50 and 100 yard dash). Practise your tackling ability, and your agility, especially when it comes to tracking down runners. Also, your speed off the snap of the football is very important for a defensive end.

Try doing five yard sprints from your stance. Lift weights you need to be stronger to move faster. Squats and lots of leg work. Practice the swim move and bull rush. They have videos on youtube if you are unfamiliar with them. Good luck.

Pracise your timing off the snap off the ball, your ability to get up from your stance, your tackling ability, and your pursuit of players.
