where to find

Question by  JeremyC (30)

Where can I find some suggestions for the wording of engagements toasts?

I want to prepare so I don't end up looking stupid.

Name the two people. Then use a quote about love (found online) by someone famous. It can be romantic, inspiring, touching, or even humorous - but suitable to the couple.

A search engine is great. Search for "wedding toast" in quotes along with your relationship to the bride or groom - brother, best friend, best man. Add words describing the wedding - 2nd marriage, children, destination. The public library has wedding and party books. Words from your own heart rarely fail - but read them to someone else first.

A simple Google search should help you out. Oftentimes the best engagement toasts are anecdotes or praises of the couple. How well you know them, why you think they're good for each other, etc. There really is no formula so it's important to come up with something meaningful to you.

Try doing an online search for "how to give a toast". There are a multitude of etiquette websites that have suggestions and even written out examples. Also, a book on etiquette or simply giving speeches will have some ideas to at least get you started. Ask a friend or relative about their experiences and what they said.
