To adjust the ball cock on an Ideal Standard toilet you must know which problem the toilet has. Does it not flush completely? If so, slightly bend the arm float upwards. Does the toilet water keep "running?" If so, the ball cock might need replacement and then you would have to perform this procedure on a water free toilet.

First empty the tank of water and then check to see if there is anything wrong with the structure. Even better, get a plumber to check it.
