How big is the Garmin Forerunner?

Well it depends on what model you are talking about and for what it is being used for. I personally like the 201 and 301 models. They are perfect for long land navigation, military training, and or a nice jog in the woods. All in all the Forerunner is a perfect size. Any bigger would be Too big.

That depends on your use for it. If you are going to be mounting it then it is not too big, but it will be bulky for your hand.

I wouldn't say it's too big. It's about 14 inches by 24 inches. If fits nicely in my backpack if I take my laptop out. You might need to get a second bag for the accessories though. It's not much bigger than other forerunners and is a quater of the price.
