Yes I have tried a few. They really gave me thousands of hits. The problem with them is that they violate terms and conditions of advertising programs such as Google AdWords. So if you have ads on your site, this is not recommended.

I've never tried a free traffic generator, but you have to expect that the quality of the traffic would be pretty horrible if it is free.

I tried to find a decent one before and I failed. Actually, I believe that I still have some spyware installed on my computer because of one these softwares... pretty lame.

I have tried using a free traffic generator which worked for some time but I am not truly satisfied with it as there are more tools and methods that can help you generate more traffic to your website.
