Has Consumer Reports done a synthetic motor oil comparison?

In July 1996, they published the results of a 2-year motor oil testing on 75 New York taxis. They found out that synthetic motor oil has no advantage over regular motor oil. They say synthetic oil is for driving in extreme conditions, such as very high or low temperatures or high engine load, which almost never happens in big cities.

Yes they have done a comparison. Castrol GTX was one of the highest rated for the unit cost. There are also other synthetics that rated higher but the cost to performance ratio made them lower picks on the Consumer Reporting charts.
