For AWOL, what is the army punishment?

It todays times it depends on the situation, the Army is much more lenient than in previous times. At one time the penalty was death. If there are circumstances which are so drastic and may have impaired a soldiers sense of rationale, the punishment will be less severe. Such as Dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of pay received

During a time of war (like the one we're involved in as of November 2009), the maximum penalty for AWOL or desertion, which are not the same thing, is death. Cases are reviewed individually.

AWOL is punishable by a financial charge anywhere from 100's of dollars to thousands and extra duties. Also being confined to barracks is a possibility for AWOL
