Question by  Danno (19)

Does rental income count for social security?

I don't want rent to interfere with my benefits.

Rental income is not wages. It is money generated by the property and then used to maintain the property, etc. If you take a salary from the rental income, that's a different story, You cannot legally use rental income for your personal expenses that do not directly relate to the business of the rentals.

Check with your state laws. Call your accountant or whoever does your tax work. The person will know the category that you fall under. This may differ from state to state, but the federal laws should be the same.
