Lap Band is considered elective surgery and would not be covered although there are exceptions in which certain doctors will perform the surgery but will not accept Medicaid as payment. This is a very costly procedure and there are other states in which medicaid would pay the cost of the surgery, but you would have to research and ask around.

The lap band is considered to be elective surgery. Most insurances will not cover elective surgeries. The only exception to this would be if you can prove that due to a current medical condition, that the lap band would be the only effective medical treatment. In most cases, elective surgery is not the only choice and is denied.

Lap band surgery is considered an elective surgery, not covered by most insurance. Medicaid excludes hospital and physician services for obesity.
