I think so. I think this would really add pop to the area and would look great in an entry way. I would tend to stick to neutral colors or different shades of white for the trim, nothing too extreme. You don't want it to stick out like a sore thumb.

Everyone has different opinions on this. I prefer the door and the door trim to be of the same color, or at least in the same color scheme, such as different shades of one color.

Yes. But when you choose colors for door and door trim you must be careful. Odd colors will collapse the beauty of the door. Trim color should not be very dark.
