Does brass jewelry turn your skin green?

I have a bracelet and it makes my wrist green everytime I wear it.

In fact, brass jewelry can turn your skin green. One way to alleviate this is to paint the back of the bracelet with clear nail polish, creating a protective barrier.

Use car wax after cleaning the jewelry with ketchup and wiping it clean. Nail polish will flake off leaving unslightly mess.  add a comment

It's not the brass exaclty. It's the copper in the brass that reacts with your skin. It might be possible to coat the inside with clear nail polish to stop the interaction.

Copper oxide is used as a pigment for artificial jewelry, so when exposed to water, sweat & oxygen, it exudes the substance on to your skin making it go green. Think of it as paint mixed with water.
