Yes, an electric toothbrush does clean better than a regular toothbrush. It is able to reach all areas better and the speeds and motion of the brush head cleans teeth much better than a regular toothbrush.

Some people do get better results using an electric toothbrush. If your dentist is asking you to get one I would. He gets no reward for you buying the brush.

It will give you a better clean but it takes longer to use as you need to put the small rotating head on every single tooth surface - rather than cleaning 3 at a time with a manual toothbrush. Ask your dentist straight out why he thinks it would work better for you. Ask him to show you problem areas.

Electric toothbrushes do work much better than manual ones. This is mainly because electric toothbrush heads rotate in a circular fashion, which puts less pressure on tooth enamel than the saw-like pattern of manual brushes.
