A foot ruler can show centimeters but it doesn't necessarily show them. Some foot rulers have inches on one side and centimeters on the other side, but others only show inches or only show centimeters.
Most foot long rulers will have a metric side with centmeters and millimeters on it. Otherwise, you can measure in inches and convert to centimeters by multiplying the length in inches by 2.54.
