I would not advise these for smaller children as they have very sensitive joints and small children could cause injuries that older children would not. They also require a good bit of attention so if your children are slightly older or super kiddos then I would HIGHLY reccommend them, they are great FUN dogs who LOVE the company of others.
Dachshunds were bred to hunt small prey, and are often not recommended for small children. Although, with proper socialization and training, most dogs can learn to interact with children safely.
Dachshunds and terriers are good pets, but both are very energetic and mischievous breeds and both breeds tend to be snappy. They can be good pets for older children.
Both of these breeds can have issues with biting. The terrier's tend to be very energetic and require a lot of attention and physical activity. The dashshunds must be handled gently for they are easily prone to back injuries.
This is not a good mix for young children. Both dachsunds and terriers are not good with children. They can be impatient and snappy dogs. You should try a lab or a retriever.
Dachshunds make excellent pets for children because they are playful and adaptable to many environmental situations. These small dogs are smart and eager to please and posses a fun loving and playful demeanor. Considered to be an even tempered breed, the Dachshund makes a good match for most family situations.
A dachshund terrier cross should make a fairly good pet for a family with children because of their hig energy level but you have to be careful of their stubborn tendencies.
