Is there some way you can add one?

Yes a classic car does have a vehicle identification number. They can be harder to decode because there was no accepted standard for these numbers until 1981.

All cars should have a vin. If a vehicle does not it has either been removed or it is a kit car. Contact the DMV about getting a new vin.
