Question by  Trecker (71)

Do you need a special electric receptacle for your refergerator?

Answer by  dannyg28 (3070)

Refrigerators do not require a special outlet they use a standard outlet that is behind the appliance. You should not use any type of extension cords with appliances as they can cause fires.

No, consumer grade refrigerators use a standard 110 volt outlet. You should also avoid using a GFI receptacle. GFI receptacles are sensitive and can sometimes switch off when there was no problem at all.

Well typically larger appliance do sometimes require a 220volt plug instead of your standard 110volt plug. So unless you already have one a new one will have to be wired.

Yes, because refrigerators are larger than many other household items that need electricity, they need a different kind of electric receptacle. Refrigerator receptacles are larger than the normal electrical outlets found in homes and have a higher amp of electricity because refrigerators need a higher amount of electricity to run the appliance and keep your food cold.

Most refrigerators will plug into a standard wall outlet. For most normal residential applications, no special receptacle should be necessary.

No. Household regrigerators are designed to run on 120 volt household current. Your normal household receptacles supply this current. The plug on the refrigerator power cord will fit an ordinary household receptacle.

Unless you bought your refrigerator in Europe, no you do not. American refrigerators run on a standard outlet, which is usually 110 volts. Much larger units might need more power.

No. Most refrigerators plug into a normal 110 current receptacle. Air conditioners usually require a 220 plug, but refrigerators use your plain old house 110 outlets.
