Remove the paint using a emery paper if the mailbox is already painted. Then apply red gloss emulsion paint thoroughly using a smooth paint brush. Make 2 or 3 coats.

When painting something that is outdoors exposed to the elements use Outdoor Paint. Look for something that will adhere to the surface that you're painting. If it's metal you can use barn and fence paint because it adheres to metal.

Clean the mailbox well and lightly sand the entire area to be painted. Clean again to get the dust off. Use a coat of primer before the paint to ensure an even look after the final coat of paint. You may need two coats of paint.

If you live by a busy road, you may want to take the mailbox completely down to paint it. This way will be alot safer.
