If you are talking about ground squirrels, yes they hibernate. Tree squirrels do not hibernate, but like to stay cozy in their nests, only coming out on sunshiny days.
Squirrels spend a lot of the time in the winter collecting food so they do not hibernate. I usually see squirrels during the early morning during the winter.
