Cookies are associated with pop-ups in order to distinguish between different visitors, visiting a certain web page & prevents the later from appearing time & again to a visitor who visits a web page. Cookies generally contain small pieces of user centric information & reside within visitor's web browser.

No. Pop ups only generate cookies if you click on a link within them or if they direct your browser to a new site. However, the site you were visiting when the pop-ups appeared may generate a cookie.

Could be yes, could be no. A cookie can be generated by a site on a regular page or a popup. There's nothing about one that requires the other. If you are concerned for some reason, you can disable either in your browser.

No. Unless it is programmed in such a way. Pop ups are generally used to show advertisements and offers from the site. Cookies are used to store user information, so that when the user comes back to the site, user information can be directly fetched from the cookie.

Will in theory any website, which pop ups are, can create a cookie on your computer. To know for sure disable cookies and see if it prompt you to allow cookies. Cookies generally are not dangerous. You should always use a good spyware program to clean and protect your pc.
