For your home movies, you should not need a VHS decrypter. Generally speaking, the video output of a VCR/VHS player is not encrypted and should interface just fine with your choice of recording equipment.

Possibly. From the mid 90's onwards VHS tapes began to have copy protection put onto them, much like the DVD's being used today. The best way to find out is to attempt to copy the movie first. If it does not work, try using a program such as DVD Decrypter to crack the protection on the VHS.

You do not need a VHS decrypter because they did not have that kind of technology when they were making VHS. All you need to do is get a combo dvd vcr combo with a record button on the dvd side and it will copy the video to a blank dvd.
