It varies. Some guys do and some guys don't. You can't tell unless you know that individual guy very well. Just like women, guys vary tremendously in their openness.
Some guys say what they really mean and other don't. If they like you then at first they may not tell the truth but later on they should be honest. Most guys are straight forward and don't like to bet around the bush.
