On March 6th, 2008, Betsy Hartmann wrote an article entitled "The Election that Might Not Happen". In this article, Mrs. Hartmann speculates that through a number of quasi-legal measures, President Bush might be able to postpone the election if there was a "catastrophic emergency". This article was spread to many different websites all over the internet.

Because everyone has different levels of intelligence and common sense. Just like some people know not to forward those silly chain letters and others forward every single one of them just in case.

There are situations in dictatorships in which the elections were suspended to prevent an elected turnover of the government. This has happened in Algeria in December 1991 when the army was concerned Muslim fundamentalists might win. Guinea did so in September, 2010 because of ethnic violence and concerns that election of one candidate might lead to greater bloodshed.
