The Talmud is a collection of writings by rabbis that explain Jewish law and religious tradition. Most of the text is available online.

The Talmud is a thousand page long companion to the Torah. It includes many different Rabbi's interpretations of the Law. To truly understand it you would have to be able to read ancient Hebrew. It cannot be summed up easily.
