The way I test a coil, is to remove the wire leading to the distributer, and place a long screwdriver into the hole. Next place the screwdriver close to another metal part, turn engine over and look for spark. Note, if the coil has oil leaking from it, replace it.

The pickup coil will not work if the green transmitter wire is loose or not connected. When the coil isn't working, this is usually the problem.

A simple test light will do the trick. Ground one end of the test light on an unpainted part of the frame or engine. Remove the plug that goes to the distributor. Have the ignition key turned on but dont let anyone crank the motor over. Now place the test light in the coil, if it lights the coil's good.

The GM pickup coil works of the distributor shaft, using a magnet. You can hook a multi meter to the pins and pass a screwdriver in front of the pickup. I would guess your ignition module is junk. Have it tested at any reputable auto parts store.
