Molting is the shedding of the Hermit crabs old exoskeleton. For a very young Hermit crab molting takes place frequently. Adult crabs will molt usually around only 2-3 times a year.

I had one I watched for a few days and it wouldnt go back into its shell. At that point it started smelling and I knew it was time to get another pet.
