How can I tell if my hermit crab is molting?

Just before molting they will eat, drink and dig more than usual. Their body will turn ashy color while their legs and claws may be white. Their legs and claws may be droopy. Best thing to do is leave them alone.

Crabs that are molting often appear as if they might be dead. If you crab is indeed going through the molting process, it probably appears to be lifeless and is at least partway out of its shell. It is important to not disturb your crab during this process.

When a hermit crab molts it leaves its shell and hides out for 1-2 days till its new exoskeleton grows back.
