It is possible to teach yourself but harder without a professional to get you started on the fundamentals of the full swing. But if you are serious about going solo: Buy a training grip ( grip with bumps ) to show you how to properly grip the club. Buy a dvd to cover the fundamentals and hit the range.

It is possible to teach yourself golf. You will need a golf instruction book, such as "How I Play Golf", by Tiger Woods. A video camera will also be helpful.
