yard

Question by  Ww (9)

Can you put up windmills in your yard?

I would want to use them for power--not decoration.

As Americans become more eco-friendly, there are many power alternatives considered for today's home. Devices such as windmills can be very useful and may be acceptable in rural areas however most home owner associations will ban and even fine you if you put them in your yard.

That depends. Your neighborhood, township, city, or state governments may have restrictions on what you can and can not build on your property. Some governments encourage it, and many energy companies will pay you for any excess power you create.

Yes you can, but they are very expensive. The good news is that you should qualify for tax credits from the federal government, your state, and even your electric company.
