By doing so, you are risking the chance of a neighbor seeing you do so. When they see you, they can call the authorities and have them come out to either arrest you or give you a ticked for decent exposure. This is a risk that should not be taken unless your system is backed up.

I'm sure you "can" defecate in your yard; I seriously doubt if it's legal in any civilized community, even with a privacy fence. However, if nobody saw you do it then you couldn't get in trouble. Keep in mind that it's a socially unacceptable behavior and probably very messy. I'd stick with the bathroom unless you have a serious emergency!

It depends on the statutes where you live: in my town, if you were caught you would be arrested for indecent exposure. In the country and hiking areas, it's expected.

If no one can see you, then there's no reason you can't. Except of course the hygiene factor. Just to be on the safe side, you would be smart to consult with the local police to make sure there are no local health ordinances that would prevent it.
