Yes, a toddler can use a spoon, the sooner you teach a toddler to use a spoon, or other utensils, the better. However, the expectation should also be that the child is getting enough nutrition. If the child is having trouble feeding himself, then you should feed them.

Mostly I think toddlers should feed themselves - with a spoon or with fingers. Occasionally you can help them eat things that are messy - like yogurt, ice cream, applesauce. Sometime they can't quite get it all out of the bowl. It can be messy to let them feed themselves, but it's important for them to learn.

Yes you can. You can sit right there with them to help. It will be really messy at first but it is how they learn. It can be a lot of fun to try different foods with them as well. Ice cream, apple sauce, soup. Toddlers love to try new things anyways.

As soon as the child shows an interest in trying to feed him or her self then let them. Be prepared for lots of mess and the meal taking a long time! A good way is for you to have a spoon so you can feed the child as well.
