If its slipping then your probably gonna have to have the tranny torn down to find the problem. You can always try a tranny flush to see if it helps.

If the transmission in your car seems to be slipping then your best bet is to take it to a Mechanic to find out how serious the problem is.

The first check with any transmission problem is the fluid level and condition. Warm the car to temperature (10-20 minutes) and pull the dipstick. If the fluid is in the crosshatches smell the fluid and note the color. It should be bright red. Over that, take it to a professional.

It is probably related to either the torque converter not locking up or the bands in the transmission slipping. Open it up to find out which one it is.

I don't know that much about cars but my best advice for your Mercury Mystique transmission is to go to a good known car repair shop.
