Open the trunk, and use a coat hanger/wire held taut to press against the latch. When pressed against the bottom, the top should curve over whatever you're holding to "lock" it. If nothing moves, try some WD-40 and hitting the trunk release button to see where it's stuck.

Depending on model, Lincolns have at least three areas that provide tight seal. Ensure main latch usually found center of back of trunk is free of foreign materials that prevent clear access. If this area was jammed, the latch could be broken and requires dealer replacement. Hinge/latches at back of trunk become dry; oil frees joints and allows to close.

if the trunk won't latch, then you have probably bent the latch on the trunk, or the reciever hitch on the car. You can bend the back or replace them.

You would think in a car that large the trunk would be able to hold more. Two pairs of jeans ,socks and four T-shirts is the limit.

If you are unable to close the trunk be sure that their is nothing blocking the latch and that something is not blocking the trunk from closing.

With the truck open, use a screwdriver to actuate the latch and look for anything odd. While moving the latch spray any moving parts and pivots with a good lube.
