Can you have other fish with cichlids?

Some types of cichlids are aggressive. It really depends on the specific species. Cichlids can be carnivorous (so don't put these with your other fish), but they can also be herbivores, omnivores, or just eat microorganisms in your tank already. Overall, your fish will be less aggressive if you keep them well fed.

Yes, you can, but only on a case by case basis. It depends on the type of cichlid and the type of fish you want to put with it. Some cichlids, such as Oscars, are very territorial so it might be best for no tank mates. Remember that cichlids eat smaller fish, so no tetras, except in rare cases.

Yes, of course you can have other fish with cichlids. Cichlids does no harm to other ornamental fish varieties, unless and until it has enough space in the aquarium. Shells, small plants with bush like resemblances within the aquarium helps for fast growth and breeding of the cichlids.
