Well for a short answer, no! The major retailers do not offer an xbox on trial but what might be possible is that they may allow you to use the console in their stores. This facility may not be provided by all. So you can check your local retailers for this facility.

Xbox Live on the original console is no longer available. On a Xbox 360, you get 3 months of Xbox live, different accounts.You can find some trial codes in some games.
