Can you eat sunflower seed shells?

I love sunflower seeds but think spitting out the shells is gross.

I really wouldn't recommend it, your body doesn't metabolize these shells and they can splinter and harm your intestines. You can however purchase shell-less sunflower seeds at your local super market.

You can; they will not harm you but they could chip your teeth. They sell sunflower seeds without the shells that may be an alternative for you.

Yes, technically you could. However there may be some health risk if you eat a very large quantities. They cannot be easily digested by your stomach.

I do, but yesterday I had a shell splinter my throat and what the EMT did to get it out was NOT worth eating it.. I will never eat sunflower seeds again after that experience.
