Highway 1 will be a coastal, casual and scenic route. Highway 101 will be more inland less scenic and more direct although not as direct as I5.

If time is not an issue, a drive along Highway 1 is a must. Sweeping views of the ocean, and charming towns that invite you to stop in for a bite to eat or to browse a gift shop abound. Highway 101 passes through some major cities but will get you to your destination faster.
