Well in most coolent runs from top to bottom . out the lowwer hose though the engine cooling it then past the thermostat , and back to the radiator so the coolant which absorbed the heat from the engine can be cooled by the fan and fresh air passing though the radiator.

Liquid coolant is circulated through a "water jacket" around the engine by a water pump. The hot coolant passes through the radiator where it is cooled by air passing through the radiator. A thermostat in the system regulates the temperature by by-passing some of the coolant around the radiator.

The engine and radiator are full of coolant. When cold the thermostat restricts water from passing through the radiator. When the engine warms up it opens allowing water to flow through the system. The water pump pumps water through the bottom of the block and out the front.

Liquid coolant is pumped through the engine block from where heated coolant is transferred to the radiator which dissipates it into the environment with the help of a fan.
