Can someone describe the vertebroplasty procedure for me?

My doctor is talking about this as a possible option for my back pain.

Vertebroplasty involves injecting cement into a piece of vertebrae in the back to solidify and strengthen the bone. In theory, it should help with pain due to osteoperosis and/or compression fractures, but in practice has not shown much benefit.

Vertebroplasty is minimally invasive and takes about one hour. Local anesthesia and a light sedative are used. Acrylic bone cement is injected into the fractured vertebra,to stabilize it.
