PVCs, or premature ventricular contractions, usually do not slow the heart rate, but often speed it up instead. Of course, if your heart is not beating rapidly, sometimes the heart may make what is known as a compensatory pause after a PVC, and this may slow down the heart rate.

PVC (premature ventricular contraction), sometimes called a skipped beat, is an electrical abnormality related to heart rhythm. Three or more consecutive PVCs are called ventricular tachycardia, i. e. increased heart rate.

Most people are unaware of PVC's or just don't feel them but others may feel what is called palpatations which are also known as "skipped heart beats". It is safest to have personal cardiologist investigate ones symptoms for a better diagnosis.

PVC's or premature ventricular contractions are early heart beats originating from the ventricle. One may feel a flutter in their chests. If taking one's pulse one wouldn't feel the PVC because the ventricle doesn't have time to fill. One's pulse would be irregular. PVC's alone do not slow the heart rate. PVC's if frequent in nature need medical evaluation.
