No, most kittens cannot swim. They should not be put into water! Even giving a kitten a bath can be hazardous as their small bodies find it difficult to keep in heat, and you can easily give them a sickness or chill without meaning too, so be careful with baby cats.

Contrary to popular belief, cats can swim. Whether they do so willingly is another matter. Most animals can swim if forced to.

Most animals can naturally swim, they just do not like the water. I actually threw my cat in the pool to answer this question. He seemed like he was about to have a heart attack, but eventually made his way to the stairs. What is it with cats and water?

No, adult cats cannot swim either. Cats are covered in fur and HATE to get wet, they are unable to tread water like dogs and will probably drown if put in a watery situation.
