Question by  CarolinaGirl (1)

Can I use tobacco dust around my dog pen to keep fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and snakes away from him?

I live in a very wooded and wet area, so I need some good advice about this product. It was recommended to me, but I don't want to use it if it will harm him. What should I do? Can I use this product?

Talk to your veterinarian about a flea-tick treatment as well as a heartworm treatment. It's worth it to keep your dog alive. Tobacco dust is a waste of money, given the conditions where you dog is kept.

It is not recommended to use nicotine dust as nicotine is actually toxic to dogs (and humans to). It is actually used in some insecticides. Small quantities may only cause discomfort, but continued exposure can be harmful.

The tobacco dust can be harmful to your dog and will not work ing wet areas. There is a dust called nemotoads (sp?) that is supposed to be safe.

Please don't use this product on your dog. It has been known to kill family pets as well as wild life.
