You can use traditional thinset or premixed thinset for this task. Traditional thinset will provide more binding strength as it is cement based. Premixed thinset is more convenient and will save you some time but it is not cement based and does not have as much binding strength.

Yes, thinset is highly recommended to lay the marble out. You can also use putty tools or also sealers to help lay out the marble. However, thinset is the best option.

Yes, and in fact, it is highly recommended that you use the thin set to lay marble. It makes the process easier.

You can use thinset to lay marble tiles, but I wouldn't use it for larger marble surfaces. If you do use it, be aware that marble is very porous and that it would be very easy to stain the surface. As with any other DIY project, go slow and take your time, and you'll be happy with the results.

You can use it and just make sure that it is a "burn in" type so you know that the marble won't come up. It is also the cheapest way to do it.

You can but it won't account for thickness differences in marble tile. There is a medium bed mortar specifically for marble and granite that compensate for stone differences in tile.
