Can I give a dog some cough syrup?

From my understanding and experience, it is all right to give a dog human cough syrup if you use a type that is for children (pediatric) and the only active ingredient is Dextromethorphan.

Per my personal vet: you can give something that contains dextromethorphan (Robitussin, etc) but advises you speak to your vet to find out what dosage amount for weight of dog.

No. Please do not give your dog any medication that has not been prescribed by a qualified vet. Not all human medications are safe for dogs, and the symptoms might be as a result of an underlying condition that requires treatment.

yes you give a dog some cough syrup but after consult a veterinary doctor. you should not take any decision like a doctor for your dog and yourself.
