Yes, severe trauma to the abdomen can cause a fetus to abort at any stage of the pregnancy. This isn't always the case, but any woman who experiences trauma should be seen by a doctor.

If the punch is hard enough, this is certainly possible. A fetus is fairly fragile, and any trauma to a pregnant woman can harm or even kill it. In most states, intentionally harming a fetus in this way is a separate (and much more serious crime) than just assualting someone in general.
