I think it would be an insanely difficult process for a felon to adopt. Because when looking at a candidate to adopt a child, they look for everything to make sure the child will have a great home. If you are a felon, they won't see that as a good living environment for a child.

Adoption is extremely difficult in the best of circumstances, and the pool of adoptable children has shrunk due to changes in cultural mores and the fact that women can now choose not to give birth. While a felon may be able to adopt, the requirements are very strict, in order to place the child in a stable, secure "forever" home.

All adoptions require an application and background check. It would likely be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for someone with a felony record to adopt a child.

The rules for adoption vary tremendously from state to state and from country to country. However, convicted felons are almost universally prohibited from adopting. You should check the rules in your local area to be sure, however.
