If a person does not look directly at the other person with their eyes, it can indicate that they are lying, but it could also mean that they are shy or uncertain of the person they are speaking with. It could also mean that perhaps they could be trying to protect something or someone from embarassment.

Avoiding eye contact is often a tell-tale sign that a person is lying, but just because a person isn't looking at you doesn't mean they're not telling the truth. They might just be uncomfortable.
