By Wisconsin law, can a previous employer give reason for firing?

As long as what your employer says is prove-ably true, they can say what they will. Most won't nowadays for fear of repercussions, but they are over careful. If you stole, lazed off, just didn't do what you should, your employer is free to state anything they're willing to prove.

By federal law, an employer may not state reasons for termination. The employer can only verify employment and state "yes" or "no" when asked: Would you rehire?

An employer may or may not give a reason for firing a former employee, it depends on their policy in this case.

I don't think it is legal to give that information out, but not sure you need to consult a lawyer though, to make sure they can give out the information.
