Housing,Urban and Development (HUD), a government program, still provides grants for first time homebuyers. What they will do is put down roughly 30%-60% on a home, depending on income verification. Most banks still offer excellent deals for first time homeowners, it's a matter of good credit standing now. Catholic Social Services, Salvation Army and Goodwill also offer grants.

Legitimate grants for first time buyers are few and far between. Your best bet is to search for government grants. Make sure the sites you explore have the .gov address or you will be likely dealing with scammers. A better choice would be to check into no or low down payment loans.

There are some but most are usually state or local grants and will depend on where you are located. There are also some plans that the federal government has where it is a loan and not a grant.
